Standing at 6’6″, he played three years at Texas Tech before joining Illinois in his senior year. Last year, he led the team with 17.2 points per game and was unanimous selection for the preseason all-Big Ten Team. However, allegations of rape surfaced against him on Wednesday. Shannon is said to have presented himself to the authorities in Lawrence, Kansas, where the alleged incident happened on September 8. The basketball player has been released on a $50,000 bond and has been suspended from all team activities.

Terrence Shannon Sr, a former collegiate basketball player, is currently a coach at SCS Academy in Melbourne, Florida. He also has a sister named Kaileiah and is a sophomore at the University of Central Florida. The University of Illinois suspended Shannon from all team activities on December 27, a day after the Douglas County District Attorney issued a warrant for his arrest.

Illinois has been aware since late September about the charges Shannon is facing, and his attorney, Mark P. Sutter, has said his client is innocent of all charges. Shannon has cooperated with law enforcement since September and declared his innocence from the beginning. The attorney added that his client voluntarily surrendered less than 24 hours after the formal charges were filed against him in Lawrence, Kansas.
