According to the authorities and his former team, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, Anthony Varvaro, who later retired from the sport and joined the Port Authority Police Department died in a gory accident on Sunday (September 11) while on his way to a September 11 memorial in New York.

Per credible sources the 37-year-old Varvaro was traveling to Lower Manhattan for the commemoration at about 4:30 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike in Hudson County when a Toyota RAV4 traveling the wrong way struck his Nissan Maxima, causing it to crash into a concrete barrier.

The heartbreaking news is that both Anthony Varvaro and the Toyota’s driver, Henry A. Plazas were killed on the spot.

It is interesting to note, that prior to his departure he had made a fortune from playing baseball in his earlier years.

According to a probe into his assets earlier in the year revealed he had over $ 5 million dollars in his possession as his net worth.
