We mourn the loss of Chris Lucius, the cherished baseball coach at East Union Attendance Center, with deep sorrow.

When he lost the struggle for his life against cancer on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, he was just 37 years old, according to SNBC13.com.

His influence as a mentor and coach extended beyond his team to the entire Urchin community, which explains why his passing has left such a gaping hole in our hearts.

Chris was a baseball instructor who was tremendously passionate and committed. On and off the field, he constantly worked to bring out the best in his players. He was a very effective coach because of his dedication to imparting the foundations of the game.

He made an extra effort to make sure that his players were knowledgeable about every facet of baseball strategy since he recognized that understanding the game is essential for the development of any athlete. Chris, however, was extremely concerned with his players’ development as individuals in addition to helping them become better athletes.

He was renowned for offering his staff leadership and life advise anytime they needed it. Chris consistently offered a listening ear or a supportive shoulder when things got tough, displaying compassion and understanding that went beyond just a coach-player connection. Chris conducted himself both on and off the field with a passion for the game that was obvious.

He sincerely liked the game and devoted endless hours to teaching his teammates new skills. During practice, he always kept things fun to keep everyone motivated and enthusiastic about picking up new skills.

But when it counted, Chris also knew how to be strict and orderly without being scary or overbearing.
