Today, the Coastal Resources Division honors Dick Flood, a.k.a. “Okefenokee Joe” to many Georgians. His demise was today verified by his family to GPB News. He was 90.

“Okefenokee Joe” was a musician, educator, conservationist, and an inspiration to a great number of Georgians who value the natural beauty of our state. In addition to other things, he hosted the GPB-TV documentary “Swampwise,” which won an Emmy.

We concur with his son’s sentiments as expressed to GPB News “We’re devastated by his passing. He had a significant impact on a lot of lives, you know. He impacted people’s lives. He was a fantastic environmental evangelist. He will be sorely missed.”
