On Tuesday, January 17th, Dillon A. Vieira, a 26-year-old resident of Hesperia, was identified as the driver of a Tesla that was involved in an intentional crash on Bear Valley Road.

According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was moving at speeds greater than one hundred miles per hour and never heard the brakes being applied.

After arriving on the site, emergency responders from the Victorville City Fire Department determined that Vieira was already dead. This tragic accident has prompted many to ask why this happened and what could have been done to prevent it.

It is unclear why Vieira was driving at such high speeds or why he failed to apply his brakes when needed.

However, it is possible that speeding and distractions may have played a role in this tragedy.

Many people are unaware of how dangerous it can be to speed or drive while distracted.

Even if you are driving carefully and paying attention, you may be unable to react quickly enough in order to avoid an accident if you are going too fast.

Speeding also increases the risk of death or serious injury in a crash by increasing the force of impact between two objects.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that speeding accounted for approximately 27% of all traffic fatalities in 2018 alone.
