I am an Adolescent Medicine physician (MD, FAAP) at UC San Diego. I have expertise in human trafficking, physician education, reproductive health, eating disorders, trauma informed care, and community building. As Executive Director of Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans, I have conducted CME-accredited human trafficking trainings at medical schools and hospital systems across seven states, produced an online CME tutorial (), and delivered a TEDx talk on human trafficking (). I have served on committees for the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Women’s Association, Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, and the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and I am a member of HEAL Trafficking. I have authored numerous articles for medical journals and the lay press and have advocated for human trafficking survivors at the United Nations, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the New York City Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence. I also have spoken on television news and public radio about the need for a trauma-informed approach for working with trafficking victims and survivors. I received an AAP International Elective Award and an American Women’s Hospital Service grant for my work with women and orphaned girls in Nepal, as well as a $25,000 Medelita "Hero" Award for my work with victims of human trafficking. I graduated from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University where I also completed my pediatrics residency, and I am a graduate of Montefiore’s fellowship in Adolescent Medicine.
