According to ESPN’s Enrique Rojas, Jesús Alou, a two-time World Series winner and a big-league veteran of portions of 15 seasons, passed away on Friday.

On March 24, Alou would have turned 81 years of age. Alou had recently experienced two “cardiovascular accidents,” according to Rojas, but no “serious sickness” was known to be afflicting him.

Alou played for the Houston Astros, Oakland Athletics, and New York Mets in addition to the Giants. He won two World Series with the Athletics in 1973 and 1974. Alou also spent a short time working for the Montreal Expos.

He was selected by the Expos in the 1968 expansion draft, only to be traded to the Astros months later in a transaction that also included Rusty Staub of Montreal. The Boston Red Sox, for whom Alou most recently worked, issued the following message in memory of him:
