Doris Couser Strait and John Byron Strait were the parents of George Strait.

George’s mother Doris Couser Strait was born on June  26, 1935.

She died at age 79 on January 2010.

George’s father John Byron Strait Sr. was a junior high school mathematics teacher and rancher.

He was born on January 11, 1922, in Brown County, Texas.

John owned a 2,000-acre (810 ha) cattle ranch outside of Big Wells, Texas.

He was in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He taught Math in the Pearsall ISD for over 30 years and was active in Gideons International.

John died on Jun 4, 2013, in Pearsall, Frio County, Texas, at age 91 after being hospitalized for nearly a month.

Besides George, Doris Couser and John Byron Strait Sr had two other children, a daughter; Pency, and a son;  John Jr. who died in 2009.

Doris and John separated when George was in grade four.
