Gregory John Norman AO is an Australian entrepreneur and retired professional golfer who spent 331 weeks as world number one in the 1980s and 1990s. He won 89 professional tournaments, including 20 PGA Tour tournaments and two majors: The Open Championships in 1986 and 1993.

Greg Norman parents: Toini Norman, Merv Norman
Norman was born in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. He was born to his parents named Mervin Norman his father and Toini Norman his mother. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother was a Finnish carpenter’s daughter. As a kid, he used to play rugby and cricket and aspired to be a professional surfer.
When he was 15 years old, his mother Toini who had a single-digit handicap taught him how to play and allowed him to caddy for her at the Virginia Golf Club in Brisbane.
In around eighteen months, Norman went from a 27 handicap to a scratch handicap. He attended Townsville Central State School, Townsville Grammar School, and Aspley State High School on Brisbane’s north side before transferring to Aspley State High School on Brisbane’s north side.
In June 1974, when he was 19 years old, he received media attention at the Queensland Open. The Canberra Times reported that “the young amateur Greg Norman” was one shot off the lead after the first round.
Norman is not the only child of his parents, he has a sibling whose name is Janis Norman.
