A member of the coaching staff at Columbia Basin College was recently killed, and the news was announced on Twitter on a Saturday afternoon.
Volleyball coach DiShondra Goree passed away suddenly in her sleep.
“Words cannot explain the pain we feel at this time,” the tweet reads.
DiShondra Goree, who coached the women’s volleyball team at Kentucky State University, has passed away.
In 2018, Goree enrolled at Kentucky State, where the Thorobreds finished the season with a 23-22 record and a 14-3 record in the SIAC. Having finished as the Western Division’s #2 seed in the SIAC regular season, the team competed in the 2018 playoff tournament.
Coach Goree led the 2019 Thorobred volleyball team to a 25-14 overall record and a 16-2 record in the SIAC.
Again, the Thorobreds finished their season as the runner-up in the SIAC.
She was remembered not only at her alma mater, Shaw University, but also at Kentucky State. Three times named CIAA Coach of the Year, Goree oversaw the Bears’ 2016 run to the program’s first conference title in 21 years.
Through her dedication to volleyball and coaching at Kentucky State and around the country, DiShondra Goree left an indelible mark on the lives of her student-athletes, colleagues, and fans. Her Kentucky State Athletics family will miss her greatly, but she will be remembered lovingly.
