James Acaster (born 9 January 1985 in Kettering, England) is a stand-up comedian from the United Kingdom. He went to Montagu secondary school in Kettering and currently resides in London with his family.. Acaster formerly played drums in a number of Northamptonshire-based bands, including Pindrop, Three Line Whip, and The Wow! Scenario, amongst other groups. Following the dissolution of The Wow! Scenario, he “decided to perform comedy until he could figure out what he truly wanted to do.” Josh Widdicombe and Nick Helm joined Acaster in a performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2009, in which they performed with other comedians. In 2010, he toured with Josie Long, and in 2011, he toured with Milton Jones, both of whom he supported. It was he who performed as the online act in Dave’s One Night Stand from Bristol, which was broadcast on Russell Howard’s Good News Extra. “Amongst Other Things” was his debut solo production, which premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011.

 Acaster had an appearance on the television show Australia Versus and co-hosted the radio show My First Gig on Resonance FM. In the fall of 2011, he made an appearance on Chris Addison’s E4 show Show and Tell. The solo show “Amongst Other Things” was presented in different locations throughout the United Kingdom during the spring of 2012. “Prompt” was the title of Acaster’s show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012. It started its run to excellent reviews and a passionate reaction from the crowd, both live on stage and afterwards on social media sites such as Twitter. It was nominated for a Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for best comedy show at the festival in 2012, and won the award the following year. Between January and March 2013, Acaster presented his one-man show “Prompt” at 14 locations throughout England and Wales, after which he featured at the Auckland Comedy Festival in New Zealand. In December 2013, he was named the winner of the New Zealand Comedy Guild’s Best International Act Award. 

The Pleasance Courtyard was the setting for Acaster’s “Lawnmower,” which premiered in Edinburgh in 2013. The show was nominated for the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award for best comedy show in 2013 and won the award. On the BBC musical comedy panel programme Never Mind the Buzzcocks, he made his debut appearance in September of the previous year. On November 30, 2013, he played a local show in Kettering, England, to bring his “Lawnmower” tour to a close. Acaster has done a variety of radio work, including a half-hour show for BBC Radio 4, “James Acaster’s Findings – Bread,” which also included Nathaniel Metcalfe and Bryony Hannah, as well as other guests. In June and July 2014, a series of four episodes of “James Acaster’s Findings” was filmed, with the first of these episodes airing on the 5th of November 2014. As a frequent guest on Josh Widdicombe’s XFM radio programme, where he is well-known for his “classic scrapes,” Acaster also has a large following of fans.
