Jared Burriss: Tragic Motorcycle-Car Collision Claims Young Life

In the early hours of Sunday, September 17, 2023, a tragic collision occurred at the intersection of Canton Road and Blackwell Road, leading to the untimely death of Jared Burriss, a 25-year-old resident of Marietta. The Cobb County Police Department’s Special Operations S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is actively investigating this devastating incident.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation indicate that Jared Burriss was operating a blue Yamaha Y.Z.F. R1, traveling north on Canton Road as he approached Blackwell Road. Simultaneously, a black Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 50-year-old Carlos Ayestas, was proceeding westward through the same intersection.

Tragically, the two vehicles collided when the front of the Yamaha struck the left side of the Hyundai. The impact had catastrophic consequences, propelling Mr. Burriss and the Yamaha westward. Mr. Burriss, tragically separated from the motorcycle, came to an uncontrolled rest at the corner of the intersection.

Prompt emergency response followed, with Mr. Burriss being swiftly transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital via ground ambulance. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

Remarkably, Mr. Ayestas declined medical transport at the scene, emerging physically unharmed from the collision.
