The 17 victims of the legendary serial murderer, his family members, including his brother David Dahmer (who later changed his identity), and his father Lionel Dahmer, have all received new attention thanks to the new Netflix series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Series.”
Richard Jenkins plays Lionel Dahmer in the first episode of the show. There, he is taken to the police station where he is informed about the 17 killings his son committed between 1978 and 1991.
Jeffrey Dahmer parents: Meet Lionel Dahmer, Joyce Dahmer
The birth parents of Jeffrey Dahmer, Lionel and Joyce Dahmer, have been open about their son’s upbringing and recognized that they were ignorant of his mental state and homicidal tendencies when he was younger.
Despite their separation and later divorce, Lionel and Joyce insist that they raised Jeffrey in a conventional household and that, unlike many serial killers, he was not mistreated when he was a youngster.
Given that he was a PhD student pursuing a degree in chemistry at the time, Jeffrey’s father Lionel admitted in his book A Father’s Story that he was mainly absent during his son’s formative years.
