Jerry Victor Doucette was a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist who died on April 18, 2022.
He was born on September 9, 1951, in Montreal, and grew up in Hamilton, Ontario.
He came to Vancouver in 1972 and played with The Seeds of Time and The Rocket Norton Band before signing with Mushroom Records as a solo act.
Doucette earned the Juno Award for Most Promising Group of the Year in 1979 with him contributing immensely to that.
He’s likely best known for his song Mama Let Him Play from the album of the same name, which was certified platinum in Canada and reached the Billboard Top 100 in 1978.
Between 1977 and 1999, Doucette released five solo albums.
He continued to perform in tiny venues and bars around Western Canada until 2018 when heart troubles forced him to call it quits.
He was 70.
