Joanne Bracker, a retired American college basketball coach, was born on May 3, 1945, and died on February 1, 2023. Bracker taught basketball in the late 1960s before taking over as Midland University’s women’s basketball coach in 1970.
Bracker competed in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Championships for Division I and Division II with the Midland Warriors from the 1980s to the 2000s. Bracker’s best season as head coach was a fourth-place finish in the 1985 Division I championship.
Bracker remained a Midland coach until her retirement in 2012. Bracker retired as the NAIA women’s basketball coach with the most wins (736) and the fewest losses (403).
Bracker was a member of the committee that selected American women’s basketball players for the 1991 Pan American Games, 1992 Summer Olympics, and 1996 Summer Olympics, in addition to Midland.
In 1996, Bracker was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, and in 1999, she was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
