A Norwalk family is searching for a missing family member seeking explanations for his sudden disappearance after being brought to the hospital.
On April 1, Jonnathan Landy Villa, age 27, was admitted to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he remained until that day.
Landy Villa, they informed News 12, has been diagnosed by local doctors with NMDAR encephalitis, a rare autoimmune condition that can induce seizures, amnesia, and confusion.
Nadelin Loja, Landy Villa’s sister, said, “The main symptom is him being confused.” He “just didn’t know where he was, what his name was on some days,” as the saying goes. That’s what has Loja so concerned.
On Thursday afternoon, she and her mother went to the hospital to see her brother, but they found the room empty.
Loja claims that nobody noticed Landy Villa was missing. She mentioned that security was called and it was found that he had left through an emergency exit.
Loja said,
“Alarm will sound if the emergency exit door is open,” but it never did.
She also mentioned to News 12 that her brother is supposed to have a bed alarm to notify staff if he tries to leave, but that the nurse who cared for him that day forgot to activate it.
According to Loja, the hospital notified New Haven police, who responded and searched the area for Landy Villa but were unsuccessful.
Loja and her mother have also been conducting their own investigation.
We have looked in every possible place. Even though we don’t reside here, we’ve been trying to figure out where he might be, Loja added tearfully. We visited railroad terminals. We waited at bus stops, but there were none.
The hospital’s spokeswoman informed News 12 that they are limited in what they can say due to HIPPA regulations, but they did issue the following statement:
“Yale New Haven Hospital is committed to providing the safest and highest quality of care possible.” Because of the importance we place on patient safety, we maintain tight relationships with community organizations.
The spokeswoman also told News 12 to contact police for more details, but the police have yet to react.Loja said the hospital hasn’t responded to the family’s questions, so she’s turning to the media in an effort to get her brother home.”We just want him back,” she emphasized.
The family says that the last time they saw Landy-Villa, she was holding a green and black beach bag, wearing gray sweatpants and slip-on sandals, and wearing a hoodie with a teddy bear on the front. A hospital band can be visible on his wrist as well.
