The Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was shot Oct. 1 while responding to a domestic abuse call has died.

Sheriff Tom Spangler said shortly before 11 p.m. Oct. 2 that Tucker Blakely was undergoing surgery to harvest his organs.

Blakely, 29, is survived by his wife and 5-year-old son. He graduated from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Regional Training Academy in 2021, Spangler said.

The sheriff’s office released few details about what happened, but said they were called at about 11:15 p.m. Oct. 1 to a home on the 2300 block of Denver Lane in the Solway community.

Thirty-year-old Matthew Logan Rose was killed and Blakely was seriously hurt in the exchange of gunfire, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is reviewing the case.

Blakely was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after he was wounded.

Blakely, who was a military veteran, was on his final patrol shift after he had been selected for a K-9 assignment, Spangler said, and he had recently picked up his dog.
