Argentine anthropologist Florentino Ameghino is remembered for his research on fossils of the southern Pampas. Born in Sardinia, he moved to Argentina at an early age and soon began his study of fossil classification. He later taught zoology, geology, and mineralogy. His work won him a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle.
