Phoenix Police Department (PPD) Officer Mark Aker died in the line of duty on Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency while at work.

The PPD said in a Facebook post that the veteran officer encountered a “medical event” during his duty on May 10.

The department stated he was not answering a call for assistance when the incident occurred, KNXV reported.

Officer Aker was sent to a nearby hospital in a hurry, but he did not make it.

His precise cause of death wasn’t disclosed right away.

The following day, the PPD announced that Officer Aker had tragically passed away.

The police department released the following statement: “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Officer Mark Aker #5884 who passed away from a medical event while on-duty on May 10, 2023.”

After joining the force in 1994, Officer Aker spent the next 29 years of his life giving back to his community.
