According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), 27-year-old Mario Ackers was missing when he was found dead on July 17; MPD is now looking into his death as a homicide.
On July 10, 2023, Ackers was reported missing.

According to MPD, police responded to a man down complaint in the 1400 block of Richmond Ave. around 3:50 on Monday, July 17. The individual, according to investigators, passed away there.

The same day, Tamika Johnson, the mother of Ackers, talked with ABC24 and pleaded with the public and MPD for additional assistance. Although it took two days to identify him, we now know that Ackers was the individual killed on Richmond Avenue at the time of that interview. On July 19, he was positively recognised.
We questioned MPD over the delay in Ackers’ identification. They claimed that once the medical examiner verified that it was indeed him, his identity was made public.

Ackers’ death was not explained by Memphis Police, nor have any suspects in the crime been identified.
