Remembering Nykinzi Thomas: A Tragic Loss for Basalt
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the tragic passing of Nykinzi Thomas, an 18-year-old teenager from Basalt. Nykinzi’s life was tragically cut short in a devastating six-vehicle crash that occurred on a Thursday morning.
The Bonneville County Coroner, Rick Taylor, confirmed her identity and determined that Nykinzi Thomas lost her life due to traumatic injuries sustained in the accident.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of South Yellowstone Highway and West 49th South in Idaho Falls. Nykinzi was behind the wheel of a 2013 Ford Taurus when the vehicle entered the intersection and tragically collided with a westbound 2000 Kenworth semi-truck, which was towing two trailers. The semi-truck was operated by a 27-year-old man from Blackfoot, according to Idaho State Police.
Despite the efforts to provide medical care, Nykinzi Thomas was transported to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
It’s worth noting that all individuals involved in this tragic incident were wearing seatbelts, emphasizing the unpredictable and severe nature of accidents. The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police as they work to determine the full scope of the circumstances.
