On Saturday morning, a caravan fire in Brisbane’s western suburbs claimed the lives of a man and a woman in their 20s.

Around 4:15 in the morning, crews were sent to a rural Upper Brookfield location on Galvin Road where they discovered the caravan “well alight.”

The caravan was entirely wrecked when the bodies of a 22-year-old Lowmead man and a 26-year-old Rosedale woman were discovered inside.

Later, Queensland Police verified that the victims’ identities were Jane Strong and Eli Johnson.

According to Brisbane region duty officer Inspector Karl Hahne, another male who had burns on his hands, the back of his neck, and shoulders was taken to the hospital.

He is doing well right now.

The man and lady were staying in Upper Brookfield prior to the Brookfield Show, according to Inspector Hahne, and several other people who were also on the property had seen the fire.

“Any loss of life is sad, but to lose two people in this way, it’s a very sad day,” he said.

Contacting next of kin is currently our top priority, he added.

He claimed there were several buildings on the property, including shipping containers, and that the caravan had a tin roof.

He claimed that it was still unclear whether the man and woman were dating.

What started the fire is being looked into by the police and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES).

Although they are not needed in caravans, QFES acting superintendent Tim Burchmann said it was uncertain whether the caravan had a smoke detector.

The circumstances surrounding this incident will hit the community very hard, therefore we urge everyone to take care of one another and support one another, he said.
