Following a collision on Sunday night in Sac County, one man has died and another has been hurt.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a collision occurred at the junction of Perkins Avenue and 350th Street on April 23 just before 8:00 p.m.

Oliver Massman, 22, of Homen, Wisconsin was operating a 2014 Volkswagen when it entered a ditch, climbed a slope, struck and shattered an electricity pole, then over the embankment and struck a tree.

The vehicle eventually crashed, fell into a pond, and became submerged.

According to ISP, efforts were made to save the driver’s life, but they were unsuccessful.

Passenger Ean Marker, 22, of Waupaca, Wisconsin, was flown to a hospital in Sioux City after being taken to a nearby hospital.

Speed and drinking are suspected factors, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
