Raymond Coyle was the inventor of Tayto Park and Largo Foods.
The Skryne native began his company by cultivating potatoes and vegetables on 15 acres of property provided to him by his father in Curraha.
He obtained €1.2 million, enough to pay off the creditors, and established Largo Foods in 1982, eventually acquiring the Perri and Sam Spuz trademarks and introducing the famed Hunky Dory brand.
Tayto Park is now a major job and tourist destination, with 750, 000 visitors per year prior to the epidemic. At peak season, it employs 248 full-time workers and up to 600 part-time workers.
For the past four decades, the award-winning businessman of Sydnham House, Corbalton, Tara, has been a major employer in Meath.
Ray earned a decent amount cultivating potatoes and expanded to acquire 800 acres as a result. He eventually got into financial troubles and chose to auction off the property.
He established highly successful facilities in Donegal, the Czech Republic, and Moldova before purchasing the Tayto trademark in 2006.
He died at 70.
