After a shootout with her brother at a Sterling Heights company that the two co-owned during a disagreement, a woman was slain on Friday morning.

The family of Rita Evans and Zachary Holston III is in shock following reports from the police that the two engaged in a shootout during which Holston killed his own sister.

Police say it occurred at Kath Khemicals, where they manufacture soap and other chemicals, about 9 a.m.

The victim was named by family as Evans, 54. At the hospital, her death was confirmed. Police are interviewing Holston, who is not hurt.

Lt. Mario Bastianelli, a public information officer for Sterling Heights, said: “From what we understand, this is a dispute over a business between a brother and a sister in the middle of the dispute they both pull out firearms and multiple shots are fired and female was struck.”
