Shailene Diann Woodley, born November 15, 1991, is an American actress. She was born in San Bernardino and raised in Simi Valley, California. Woodley began her modeling career at the age of five and eventually shifted to acting, beginning with tiny jobs on television.

Her breakthrough came when she landed the lead role of Amy Juergens in the ABC Family teen drama series The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008-2013). This role drew notice to her and cemented her place in the entertainment business.

Woodley’s major film roles include The Descendants (2011) and The Spectacular Now (2013), both of which received critical acclaim, with the former earning her a Golden Globe nomination.

Woodley rose to prominence for her role as a cancer-stricken adolescent in the romantic drama film The Fault in Our Stars (2014) and as Beatrice Prior in the science-fiction series The Divergent Series (2014-2016).

Her act as a survivor of sexual assault in the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) got her nominations for both a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award. In addition to her acting career, Woodley is well-known for her environmental activism.

She is a Greenpeace Oceans Ambassador and volunteers for groups such as Conservation International’s Leadership Council, GoodLeap’s Advisory Council, Our Revolution’s political action committee, and the charitable organization All it Takes.
