The University of Virginia announced on Monday that Terry Holland, a legendary basketball coach who spent 16 years turning the University of Virginia program into a national powerhouse, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80.

After retiring as a coach, Holland enjoys a prosperous career as an athletic administrator. Due to his Alzheimer’s condition, Holland ceased attending Virginia home games by the year 2019.

There had only been three successful seasons for the team in the previous 21 years before Holland took over the struggling Virginia basketball program in 1974. Yet, Holland fostered a culture of relentless defense, which turned out to be a winning formula.

He managed to build an incredible career record of 326-173 by leading the Cavaliers to nine NCAA tournament appearances, two Final Fours, and the 1980 NIT championship despite having two of his first three teams with losing records.

Despite the team’s unimpressive 15-11 regular season record, he led them to their first ACC tournament triumph in 1976. Throughout his five years as Davidson’s head coach, Holland had a commendable 418-216 overall record.

Terry Holland Net Worth At Time Of Death

Terry Holland’s net worth at the time of his death is estimated to be between $1 million and $5 million dollars.
