At the end of season 2, Casey proposes to Dawson. Unfortunately, in season 3, Casey and Dawson take a break due to the turbulent nature of their relationship.
In Let It Burn, Dawson calls Antonio to tell him about her discovery and asks him to track Casey down. Casey is found at Stilettos, having overpowered his kidnappers and beaten up Nesbitt for his actions. In “Double Red”, While on the scene of a call, Casey is hit by an uncooperative drunk driver and he fears that his career at the fire department may be over. In “Natural Born Firefighter”, Casey goes to get an MRI as a result of his head injury and Brett comes with him.
In “A Closer Eye”, his wife Gabriela, comes back from Puerto Rico only for her to leave once and for all. In “Going to War”, while fighting a apartment fire, Brett expresses blame to Casey for letting Gabby go, only for him to tell her that there was nothing anyone else could do.

Casey’s words to Gallo were quite important, especially given the backstory of the new firefighter. Gallo’s past could be addressed again in future episodes because trauma like that sticks with you. That is underscored by Casey referencing something that happened about seven seasons ago in the timeline of the show.
