Eli Palfreyman was a 19-year-old appointed captain of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Ayr Centennials whose death has rocked the world.

Palfreyman passed away this week during a preseason event in the town.

The 19-year-death old’s has left the squad devastated, according to a statement from Centennials vice-president Brian Shantz.

“We won’t speculate at this extremely trying time out of respect for the family’s right to privacy. During this terrible event, Cens country too needs time to mend.”

Players, employees, and the team are all given grieving assistance and mental health services.

Wednesday afternoon, the Centennials tweeted images of Palfreyman’s jersey:

“Please keep Eli’s family and all of our teammates in your thoughts and in your support. The town of Ayr and our Centennials group are in grief,” the message said.

“Eli had the greatest treatment from our medical personnel, and the ambulatory staff responded quickly. In the upcoming days, physicians will be able to provide us with additional information.
