Indeed, Wu-Tang is one of the most significant hip hop groups in music history. The group first came together in Staten Island in 1992, with original members RZA, GZA, ODB, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, Inspectah Deck, and Method Man.
In 2000, he had a falling out with RZA over money but reunited with the group in 2004. At first, he was an affiliated member and contributed to many of the albums. He continues to perform and is a member of the Theodore Unit, along with Ghostface Killah. Inspectah Deck is one of the original members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
One of the first times a Wu-Tang Clan member (well, a future member at that point) had a run-in with the law was also nearly the most influential one. As Oxygen tells us, the group’s leading figure, RZA, was arrested in 1991 for allegedly shooting a man named Willie Walters in the leg.

Who led the Wu Tang gang?
At the time, FBI Director, James Comey, led the bureau, which classified Wu-Tang as a gang. The FBI believed the group was involved in illegal operations and other crimes. However, there was never any proof found to tie the group to any such activity. Eventually, the FBI closed the file on the Wu-Tang Clan.
The record revealed that the FBI had been investigating and surveilling the Wu-Tang Clan in the 90s and early 00s.
Wu-Tang Clan is more than just a group of rappers. It’s a collection of talented artists and a brand.
Sadly, that came to an end. On November 13, 2004, ODB collapsed while working at RZA’s recording studio in New York City and passed away several hours later. ODB’s memory continues with the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan.
They kept in a silver, jewel-encrusted box in a secure vault at the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco. The album featured the entire Wu-Tang Clan and appearances from FC Barcelona, Redman, and Cher.
GZA is considered the spiritual leader of the Wu-Tang Clan. He’s the oldest in the group and was also the first one to sign a record deal. The other members think highly of him and his role in the group. GZA is also a founding member and cousin of RZA and ODB.
They eventually closed the file after the passing of ODB. At the time, James Comey was the FBI Director. Of course, Comey has been in the spotlight a few times in his life.

When did Wu Tang become known?
1992–96: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and solo albums. Wu-Tang Clan became known in 1993 following the release of the independent single ” Protect Ya Neck “, which helped gain the group a sizable underground following.
Wu-Tang Clan paid him homage a number of times: in August 2006, one of his sons came out at a Wu-Tang concert at Webster Hall and rapped ” Brooklyn Zoo “, along with his mother, and during a concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom the Clan brought his mother out on stage for a sing-along to “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”.
Wu-Tang Clan re-assembled and released their second studio album, Wu-Tang Forever, in June 1997 ; it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album’s lead single, ” Triumph “, is over five minutes long, features nine verses (one from each member plus Cappadonna and excluding Ol’ Dirty Bastard who appeared on the intro and bridge), and no hook or a repeated phrase. The album was produced by RZA and his protégés True Master and 4th Disciple. The group’s lyrics differed significantly from those of 36 Chambers, with many verses written in a dense stream of consciousness form heavily influenced by the teachings of the Five Percent Nation. Wu-Tang Forever was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1998 Grammy Awards, losing to Puff Daddy; Ol’ Dirty Bastard infamously protested the loss by interrupting Shawn Colvin ‘s acceptance speech for Song of the Year.
Wu-Tang Clan has introduced and launched the careers of a number of affiliated artists and groups, collectively known as the Wu-Tang Killa Bees. In 2008, About ranked Wu-Tang Clan “the No. 1 greatest hip hop group of all time”. Kris Ex of Rolling Stone called Wu-Tang Clan “the best rap group ever”.
Wu-Tang Clan assembled in late 1992, with RZA as the de facto leader and the group’s producer. RZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard adopted the name for the group after the film Shaolin and Wu Tang.
The group reconvened again for their third album, The W. Despite his incarceration in California for violating the terms of his probation, Ol’ Dirty Bastard was on the song “Conditioner”, featuring Snoop Dogg. Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s vocals were recorded via prison telephones. The W was released in November 2000, and was mostly well received by critics, and included the single ” Gravel Pit “. The album reached double platinum status.
The drama web series was created by RZA and Alex Tse. In January 2020, Hulu renewed the series for a second season.
