Kelly and Casey are co-workers at Firehouse 51. At the beginning of season one, after the death of a close friend, they had some trouble getting along and often butted heads, but would come together for the sake of the house. By Season 2 they have stopped blaming each other and get along very well. They are often seen putting themselves in danger to protect each other, such as when Severide went into an unstable burning building to help Casey find his fiancé. After Casey was injured in episode 2×10, Severide was the first to notice that he was not healed. He was very concerned about Casey, asking him numerous times if he was okay and offering help.

At the end of season 2, Casey proposes to Dawson. Unfortunately, in season 3, Casey and Dawson take a break due to the turbulent nature of their relationship.

Casey is then promoted to Captain for his heroism.

Casey has been developing a bond with Brett since Season 7 when they grew closer as friends while bonding over the loss of Dawson. She helps him look for a new apartment after a fire burns down his place, and she is concerned for him when he suffers some trauma after a scary call, giving him advice and offering to be there if he ever wanted to talk. However, Brett starts questioning her own feelings towards Casey when her friend Olivia, whom she had set up on a date with Casey, tells her that she should be with him, and that they were “meant for each other”. Brett gets advice from Kidd and Foster on this, who seemingly agree and she ends up acting awkward and nervous around Casey.

As Dawson is about to leave his office, he stops her and pulls her close to him. The two hug, and that’s the end of the episode. Fans were so relieved to see Dawsey stay together. It would crush everyone and change everything about the show if they broke up. They are actually communicating.

But then at the bar, one of Jake’s friends showed up and mentioned that Jake did not usually go there because he slept with one of the co-owners. Casey quickly put two and two together, and figured out the friend must have been referring to Dawson.
