At the age of just 21, Moustapha Sylla passed away on the way to the hospital after experiencing a cardiac attack during a game between Racing Club d’Abidjan and SOL FC in the top division of the Ivory Coast.

Tragically, a 21-year-old football player passed away from a heart attack he had while playing in the top division of Ivory Coast.

In a Sunday league match between Racing Club d’Abidjan and SOL FC that they ultimately won 3-1, Moustapha Sylla passed out on the field. The left-sided defender takes several steps backward before losing his footing and falling down close to the center circle, as seen in heartbreaking video from the Ivory Coast.

Teammates and opponents who were terrified instantly pleaded with the referee to halt play.

The club’s president, Logossina Cisse, told AFP that the 21-year-old had tragically passed away in an ambulance while paramedics raced to save his life. Moustapha passed away while being transported to the hospital, according to Cisse. He joined the team in September of last year and was only 21.

In a statement published on their Twitter website, RC Abidjan added: “Moustapha Sylla, one of our defenders, passed away this evening after becoming ill on the field during the RCA vs. Sol FC match. The family has our sincere sympathies from management.”

The Ivorian Football Federation posted a homage on Facebook with the following message:The Racing Club of Abidjan’s left-back Moustapha Sylla passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after falling on the Robert Champroux stadium’s lawn during the game, the Ivorian Football Federation’s President and executive committee regret to declare. The 21-year-old player was urgently taken to a hospital, but he sadly passed away from his discomfort.
