The head coach of Louisville, Kenny Payne, who spent three seasons playing with Spencer at the University of Louisville under former coach Denny Crum, expressed his “heart is shattered today hearing about my brother.”

Payne tweeted, “My love and prayers go out to Momma Betty, his sisters, and sibling Mac. Please remember his family in your thoughts, Cardinals.

Josh Heird, the director of athletics at Louisville, observed in a tweet that he only recently began to get to know Spencer but that “every interaction I ever had with him” was positive.
