According to his bio on WBTV, Jason Myers was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, and first saw the station as a little boy.
He had a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with a Communication Concentration from North Carolina State University.
After beginning his career as a broadcast meteorologist at KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas, Myers moved on to WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia.
Myers had been the head meteorologist at WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky, from 2013 to 2019 before joining WBTV.
Early on the morning of November 22, 2022, Myers and Sky3 pilot Chip Tayag were killed in a helicopter collision.
Reports claim that Myers and Tayag were killed in an accident on North Carolina’s Interstate 77, not far from the Nations Ford Road exit.
After more than two decades in the air, Tayag joined WBTV in 2017 as an ENG pilot for Sky3.
The fatal event is now being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Witness: “I think that he absolutely knew that he was going to have to put that down,” as reported by WCNC Charlotte.
“The best he could do was to set it down… The pilot, whoever they were, did an excellent job of landing the plane in a safe spot where it wouldn’t hurt too many people.”
